Downloading the Lockdown Browser
Please note: The Lockdown Browser is not compatible with Chromebooks.
To use Respondus Lockdown Browser, you must download the software to the computer you will be using for tests. The download is free and can be retrieved from the URL below (this is a unique URL, do not download other versions):

Select your operating system (Windows or Mac) and follow the onscreen instructions for installing Respondus Lockdown Browser. Once installed, Respondus Lockdown Browser will automatically add a shortcut icon to your desktop. |
The iPad Edition of Lockdown Browser is available from the Apple App Store and enables a student to use an iPad to take exams that require Lockdown Browser. However, your instructor must first select a setting that permits the use of iPads for the exam.
Taking a Test Using the Lockdown Browser
While Respondus LockDown Browser is open, you will not be able to open any other program, including browsers and any other applications.
- Close all open applications.
- Open Respondus Lockdown Browser by double clicking the icon on the desktop. Note: If you are first prompted to close any programs, click Yes. If you do not, you will be unable to take your test. The lockdown browser should then load the DSU Canvas login page.
- Log in to Canvas.
- Select the course where the quiz is located.
- Navigate to the quiz by selecting Quizzes in the course menu or by going to the appropriate module and click on the quiz.
- Select the Take the Quiz button to begin.
- Complete the quiz and click the Submit Quiz button. Please note: Once the quiz has started you will not be able to close the quiz (or the lockdown browser) until you click the Submit Quiz button.
- After the quiz has been submitted you may logout of Canvas and exit the lockdown browser.
