Student Technology Discount

Welcome to the DSU Family! 

Student accounts will be automatically created once students are fully admitted to Delta State University.  When your account is created, you will receive an email containing instructions on how to set up your account for the first time.

Here is some information about devices that work with our systems

Before you arrive:

1. Check your personal email to make sure that you have received instructions on how to access university systems.
2. First-time users need to click the first-time user link to set up their new password and gain access to University systems. Click the link for detailed instructions: First Time User
3. Once your account is set up in step 2 above, make sure that you can log into university systems by visiting the MyDSU Portal which can be accessed by clicking on the MyDSU link on any page or by visiting https://mydsu.deltastate.edu.
4. Begin checking your DSU email.  Your DSU email or Okramail is your connection to campus.  Any future correspondence will be sent using this email address.  You can access your email by visiting the portal in step 3 or by going to portal.office.com
5. Download and install Microsoft Office 365 on your computer. Microsoft Office 365 is provided to students at no cost.  For more information on installing Microsoft Office products on your computer, click here.
6. Visit DSU Online services to familiarize yourself with this service.  DSU Online Services is a convenient way to take care of business online for Faculty, Staff, and Students. Within DSU Online students can register for classes, check grades, view unofficial transcripts, pay for tuition, and more.  To access DSU online services please log in to the MyDSU portal.
7. Login to Canvas and set up your profile and notifications.  For instructions on setting up your canvas account, click here.

After you arrive on campus:

1. Connect your device to the WiFi network.  If you need any help, click here
2. Connect your gaming console.  If you need instructions, click here
3. Login to Canvas by visiting MyDSU and verify that all of your registered courses are on your canvas dashboard.  Courses may not be published until the first day of classes for the semester.

How do I obtain my DSU username and password?

New Faculty and Staff accounts will be requested by your immediate supervisor.  Supervisors can find the form by clicking on this link below. Please fill out the "New Computer Account Request" form and send it to helpdesk@deltastate.edu as an email attachment.

Once the form is completed by the supervisor, the supervisor will click the submit to OIT button at the bottom of the form (All required fields must be completed prior to being allowed to submit the form).  After the form is submitted, OIT will create the account within 24 hours and the department will be notified once the account is ready to be picked up.   If you have any questions, please contact our office at 662-846-4444.

Accessing DSU IT Systems

Once your account is created, all of our systems are conveniently located in the MyDSU Portal which can be accessed by clicking on the MyDSU link on any page or by visiting https://www.deltastate.edu/portal

Email

Once you arrive on campus and are assigned a computer, your access will automatically be setup for access to your email.  If you would like to access your email from off campus, you can do so by visiting https://www.deltastate.edu/portal. 

Delta State University’s Microsoft Office 365 email account provides users with many new features from Microsoft Office, including 50 Gigabytes of email storage, more security, 1 terabyte of cloud storage, and the ability to download the entire Microsoft Office Suite on up to 5 of your personal devices for free.

Software

You will be provided with a Delta State computer which will already have access to all of the software and features that we provide.  Here is a short list of the software that will be preinstalled:

• Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Access and Power BI(by request)
• IBM SPSS
• Browsers: Firefox, Chrome, and Microsoft Edge
• Adobe Acrobat Reader
• Zoom

DSU Online Services

DSU Online Services is a convenient way to take care of business online for Faculty and Staff

• Faculty members can advise students, post grades, view advisees transcripts, and more.
• Employees can view their employee information such as earnings, tax information, days earned, etc.

Instructional Technology

The Office of Instructional Technology is here to support you and your students' learning technology needs. The Instructional Technology team maintains a one-stop shop of faculty resources that is housed in Canvas. These resources can be found after logging into Canvas within the Help menu at the Faculty Resources link. New faculty will find required training, workshop recordings, newsletters, and a host of other resources. Be sure to look for announcements in Canvas as we often post workshop details as well as academic reminders for other DSU offices.

Technical Assistance

Once your account has been created and if this is your first time logging into the DSU portal or other system, you will be directed to create a multi-factor login.  Multi-factor login helps to keep your account and other systems at the university safe.  Multi-factor just means that you have to have another form of login other than your username and password.  At DSU you have multiple options for setting this up.

Follow the simple instructions below: 

Login at: https://mydsu.deltastate.edu

Your username does NOT include the domain name. (I.e. @deltastate.edu or @okramail.deltastate.edu). For example, if your email address is jdoe@deltastate.edu then your username will be jdoe.

Security Questions/Answers – these are required for all users and will be used as the primary method of authentication if you do not choose one of the optional methods below. You will need to select your security questions from the list provided and type the answer in the box below each question.  Please make sure you type your answers correctly as the text will be hidden. You can use the eye icon on the right of your answers to verify your responses were typed correctly. After you are satisfied with your selections, click the submit button.

You are required to create security questions/answers and at least one other optional method. Other optional methods are:

• Email – an email message will be sent to a secondary email address (MUST NOT be a “deltastate.edu” or “okramail.deltastate.edu” email address) containing a security code that will need to be entered.
• Phone – a text message will be sent to your device with a code that will need to be entered.
• Google Authenticator – You will need to have this app downloaded from your device’s app store, and follow the instructions provided on the Authenticator tab to configure the app. Once configured you will be able to use the code from the app to log in.

After selecting your questions and answers, click “submit” to save your responses. On future logins, you will be prompted to enter your secondary authentication information.

If you have recently locked yourself out of your account, NO WORRIES the system will let you back in after a few minutes.  However if you have forgotten your password, you need to visit the password reset before too many attempts as the system will lock your account permanently and you will have to contact the OIT office to have it reset.

If you are not able to reset your password then your account may have been deactivated.

Reasons that your account may be deactivated:

• If you are a student, your account will be deactivated 1 year after your last class is completed
• If you are an employee, your account will be deactivated if you employment is terminated.  
• Adjunct faculty are deactivated based on the employment date from Human Resources.

If you are an employee and your account has been deactivated for one of the reasons above, please contact the Human Resources department for any issues.

What is Banner?

You may have heard the term "Banner" or Ellucian Banner" around campus but what does that really mean? 

Banner is the university's enterprise resource planning (ERP) system which is a fancy way of saying it's a centralized software program that connects all student information systems and core business functions across Delta State University. Banner is used by administrative staff, advisors and faculty across the DSU campus. Banner maintains student, alumni, financial and personnel data. 

Banner itself is broken into several modules that roughly correspond with different departments .

• Banner Student contains student, course and other academic data, and it supports advising, course scheduling, registration, grading and other academic activities at the university. 
• Banner Student Accounts Receivable is a subset of Banner Student that we use to track students’ bills for tuition, housing and other fees. 
• Banner Financial Aid is what Student Financial Services uses to track the financial aid packages provided to students, manage their scholarships and work-study awards, and provide student financial reports to the federal government.
• Banner Human Resources stores employee data — including information about faculty, staff and student workers — and helps HR manage processes like onboarding and offboarding employees. 
• Banner Finance contains the financial, accounting and budget data for the university. It’s used by Finance and Administration to ensure we’re paying our bills, tracking university expenses and staying within our budget, along with other financial matters. 

Access to banner: Access to Banner is located securely under the MyDSU portal. Banner is located inside the DSU portal on the left hand side.

*Important note:  All devices will automatically unregister at the end of the Spring Semester and at the end of the Fall Semester.  On these dates, you will have to follow the below procedures to reregister your device. 

Steps to Connect to OKRAnet

1. Go to “Wi-Fi Settings” on your device.
2. Select “OKRAnet” Wi-Fi network.
3. Once the authentication method screen pops up, Select "Employee/Student Sign-in."
4. Read and accept the terms to continue.
5. Enter your "email username(ex: jdoe66)" and "password", click "Submit"
   1. Faculty and Staff , please use your DSU email credentials
   2. Students, please use your OKRAmail credentials.
6. The “Enabling Network Access” will display with status bar.
7. You’re now connected!

A user may have up to 7 devices registered under their account.
